German television presenter Sabine Christiansen interviews Senator Loren Legarda.
Frankfurt.   Senator Loren Legarda renewed her call for greater climate change action, particularly through significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and promotion of renewable energy development.


Sen. Legarda, the United Nations Champion for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation for Asia-Pacific, made the call in her keynote speech at the ThomasLloyd Cleantech Congress 2014 in Frankfurt, Germany on 24 January 2014.

Goettingen University holds Fundraising Event for the Philippines

“Vielen Dank, Deutschland!” The Philippine Embassy in Berlin, led by Consul Adrian Cruz, joins Filipino scholars and Filcom residents in Goettingen in expressing their appreciation to the University of Goettingen for launching an emergency aid fund for typhoon-affected students of the Visayas State University.
The University of Goettingen held a Filipino cultural show and fund-raising event on 15 December 2013 as part of its efforts to generate donations for typhoon-affected students of Visayas State University, its partner university in Leyte province, Philippines.  The event was held at the Paulinerkirche (Alfred-Hessel-Saal), Papendiek 14, Goettingen.

Prof. Dr. Hiltraud Casper-Hehne, Vice President for International Affairs of the University of Goettingen, expressed her condolences and concern for those affected by the calamity, particularly the communities in Leyte province, following the impact of Typhoon Yolanda (international code name: Haiyan).  She noted that Goettingen's partner university, the Visayas State University, was hit especially hard by the typhoon, with students and faculty having lost both loved ones or and livelihoods.

First batch of Filipino health professionals arrive in Germany

16 December 2013, Berlin –   The first batch of Philippine health professionals to work in Germany under the Philippine-German labor agreement signed in March this year arrived Frankfurt on 15 December 2013.

 

The four professional nurses, Ms. Vanessa S. Preclaro (25), Ms. Krystel Anne B. Sumido (28), Ms. Eowyn C. Galvez (26) and Mr. Ruel C. Galias (50), are employed by the Nordwest Krankenhaus Hospital in Frankfurt.  Ms. Preclaro works at the Cardiology Department, Ms. Sumido is assigned to the Neurology Intensive Station, while Ms. Galvez and Mr. Galias work at the Stroke Unit of the hospital.

Thai Embassy and Community in Germany donate for the Typhoon Yolanda victims

11 December 2013, Berlin –  Ambassador Maria Cleofe R. Natividad received in a simple turn-over ceremony from the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Germany, H.E. Madame Nongnuth Phetcharatana, the cash donations collected by the Royal Thai Embassy for the Typhoon Yolanda victims amounting to 10,850.00 Euro.

 

The cash donation comes from the individual contributions of the Royal Thai Embassy’s officers and staff, and those of its attached agencies like the Military Attaché, Trade and Investment, and Labor sections.  The Thai Consulate General in Frankfurt, the Thai honorary posts in Munich, Stuttgart, Essen and Hamburg, and the Thai community in Germany, also contributed their shares to the donation.

Benefit Concert Successfully Held at Berlin City Hall: German Private Donations at Almost 50 million Euros for Typhoon Yolanda

28 November 2013, Berlin. The Filipino Community and Philippine Embassy in Berlin, together with several high profile partners, successfully staged a benefit concert for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) on 27 November 2013 at the Berlin City Hall (Rotes Rathaus).  The concert, organized in less than a week, was made possible through the valuable support of the Federal Foreign Office (Auswäertiges Amt), Berlin Senate Chancellery (Senatskanzlei von Berlin), Willkommen in Berlin, and Germany’s Relief Coalition (Aktion Deutschland Hilft).  Dr. Abelardo Galang II, a German-trained Filipino pianist based in Berlin, served as musical director.

In the spirit of solidarity, hundreds packed the main hall of the Rotes Rathaus to learn more about how the general public could help those in the disaster-stricken areas of the Central Philippines.  Mr. Christoph Waffenschmidt, Chair of World Vision Germany and Board Member of Aktion Deutschland Hilft, emphasized the importance of these charity events, which ensure that the plight of the typhoon victims remains in the public limelight.  Mr. Waffenschmidt and Director Clemens von Goetze of the Federal Foreign Office both highlighted that although many German and international relief organizations are now ramping up the delivery of assistance, much more needs to be done.  Ambassador von Goetze emphasized that the Federal Government, in addition to the 6.5 million Euros provided in immediate humanitarian assistance, was committed to help the Philippines in the recovery and reconstruction phases.

PH Ambassador Talks Diplomacy at the Birthplace of the Treaty of Westphalia

Münster, Germany – Philippine Ambassador to Germany Maria Cleofe R. Natividad delivered a speech honoring 60 years of Philippine-German diplomatic relations at the historic city of Münster, Germany on 7 November 2013. Münster, along with Osnabruck, is the city where the Peace of Westphalia was signed in 1648, ending the Thirty Years' War and laying down the foundations of modern day diplomacy.


Ambassador Natividad was the guest of honor for the 2013 edition of the   “Münsteraner Botschaftergespräche” (Münster Ambassador Talks), a biannual event, upon invitation of Corps Rheno-Guestphalia and its head Mr. Dirk Frotscher. The Ambassador’s speech focused on prospects and challenges for stronger Philippine-German diplomatic relations. She delivered a presentation on “Moving Forward: Towards 60 years of Philippine-German diplomatic relations”, marking one of the Embassy’s initiatives in raising awareness on the anniversary of Philippine-German bilateral relations which was established in 1954, through the opening of a Philippine consulate in Hamburg headed by Dr. Policronio de Venecia. After her speech, the Ambassador opened the floor for questions from the audience.
