Hamburg, 10 March 2014. The German Asia-Business Association (OAV) lauded the Philippines for its impressive economic performance at the 94th Liebesmahl on 7 March 2014 in Hamburg.  OAV Chairman and Deutsche Bank co-CEO Juergen Fitschen invited Finance Secretary Cesar V. Purisima as the keynote speaker in recognition of the country’s improved competitiveness and Secretary Purisima’s commitment to economic reforms and good governance.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Fitschen stressed that the Philippines was proving to be a true success story in the Asia Pacific region, with growth being underpinned by strong fundamentals in contrast to other emerging markets where growth has been artificially created.  Mr. Fitschen was especially bullish about growth prospects in the Philippines and he noted that the German business community is gaining a keen awareness of the country’s core strength: its people.  Deutsche Bank, for instance, employs more than 2,000 staff at its Deutsche Knowledge Services in Bonifacio Global City.

This year the Philippine Country Pavilion expanded to more than 100 sq. meters and included 24 tour operators as well as hotels and resorts.
Berlin, 11 March 2014. The Philippines recently completed its successful participation at the 2014 Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) Berlin, which ran from 4-10 March 2014 at the Messe Berlin.

The Philippines expanded its presence at this year’s ITB with a total of 24 tour operators and hotels and resorts.  To meet the increased number of business representatives, the Department of Tourism designed a seamlessly integrated Pavilion profiling the main tourism destinations of the country.  Special attention this year was given to Bohol province, which has been recovering from the effects of a major earthquake in October 2013.  Ambassador Maria Cleofe R. Natividad noted that the Philippine tourism industry continued to be resilient in the face of major calamities that affected the country last year.  She noted that the main tourism destinations remained largely unaffected and in areas such as Bohol, infrastructure was being improved and upgraded.  The “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” campaign has taken hold with cons umers, with visitor arrivals growing by almost 10% to 4.68 million tourists in 2013.

Berlin, 6 February 2014.    Typhoon Haiyan is recorded as the strongest typhoon to hit the planet in recent history.

Last November 8, 2013, it devastated parts of Central Philippines. The number of lives lost and affected is unprecedented.

But ever since then, the world has been one with the Philippines in helping rebuild the nation – from sending relief goods, undertaking medical missions, all the way to pledging funds for the reconstruction of infrastructure.

This February 8, 2014, exactly three months after the typhoon, we will be one in expressing our gratitude.  The Embassy of the Philippines invites the Filipino Community to visit Potsdamer Platz corner Leipzigerstraße and Kurfürstendamm corner Augsburgerstraße (C&A Building) or to support this movement by signing up at https://www.thunderclap.it/en/projects/8454-the-philippines-says-thank-you.  We encourage the Filipino Community to share their gratitude and experiences by using the hash tag #PHthankyou in their social media messages.END

Frankfurt.  The Philippines took center stage at the 2014 ThomasLloyd Clean Tech Congress Europe, held at the Frankfurt Convention Center on 24 January 2014.  This year’s edition, themed “Meet Asia. Meet Renewable Energy’s Future”, brought together more than a thousand European investors and technology companies to discuss emerging business and investment opportunities in renewable energy infrastructure in Asia.

Owing to its strong partnership with Bronzeoak Philippines Inc., the Stuttgart-headquartered ThomasLloyd Group identified the Philippines as the conference’s focus country.  ThomasLloyd and Bronzeoak Philippines Inc. are pursuing nearly USD 500 million worth of investments in three (3) biomass, one (1) wind and two (2) solar energy power projects in Negros Occidental, while another biomass facility is in development in Tarlac.
