More than 200 Filipino Community leaders and officers, representing 52 Philippine-German associations in Germany, attended the First Convention of Filipino Community Leaders which was held on 4 June 2005 at the Rheinterasse, Düsseldorf.

It was a pioneering event that was held as part of the commemorative activities for the 50th anniversary of Philippine-German relations.

The Convention bolstered the process of galvanizing the more than a hundred and diverse Philippine-German associations in Germany under one umbrella organization that is envisioned to  become a stronger voice in German society as well as provide a valuable vehicle in articulating and promoting development assistance in the Philippines.   As it was a Germany-wide gathering of community leaders and officers,  the Convention was able to generate a stronger spirit of cooperation and camaraderie among the participants.  The Convention also provided the  appropriate occasion for an advance celebration of Migrant Workers Day being commemorated annually on 7 June.

The Convention adopted a Joint Declaration of Filipino Community Leaders that will serve as the primary framework of unity and cooperation among Filipino-German Associations under an umbrella organization.  In particular, they have recommended to consider the establishment of a National Council of Filipino German Associations that will embody the ideals, aspirations and concerns of Filipinos and Filipino-German in Germany.
