Philippine Films Compete at the 62nd Berlinale

The Philippine Embassy in Berlin is proud to be in close cooperation with the Filipino participants to the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).  Philippine cinema shall once again share the spotlight alongside film entries from all over the world from 09-19 February 2012.  This year, four (4) Filipino films will be fielded in four competitions: “Captive” by 2009 Cannes Film Festival Brillante Mendoza in the Main Competition; “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank” starring Eugene Domingo and directorial debut by Marlon N. Rivera in the Forum Section; “Nono” directed by Rommel Tolentino in the Generation Kplus Section; and “Pusong Wazak!” by multi-awarded composer, writer and filmmaker Khavn de la Cruz in the Short Film Section.  The last time that the Philippines fielded an equally large number of films in Berlinale was in 2008.

Unlimited Dive Philippines at the Boot Düsseldorf

Ambassador Maria Cleofe R. Natividad and Honorary Consul Heinz-Peter Heidrich lend their support to the Philippine Department of Tourism Team, headed by Ms Venus Tan, at the Boot Düsseldorf Fair 2012. The Philippine booth which features Unlimited Dive Philippines pitch, is in line with this year’s Fair theme: 360-degrees Watersports Experience.
January 24, 2012 – ‘When the gods created the first Philippine island in the crystal clear blue ocean, they were so excited by their work that they formed, in their euphoria, over 7000 more of these paradise islands, ’ so begins the latest pitch of the Philippine Department of Tourism-Frankfurt (DOT-Franfurt) team to attract investors and tourists at the Boot Düsseldorf 2012 which runs from 21-29 January. The Philippines is one of the exhibitors in the fair, with a booth showcasing Unlimited Dive Philippines, a strong come-on to dive enthusiasts.

Sinulog spirit explained. Ambassador Natividad inspires partcipants to the Sinulog 2012 Festival in Berlin as she explained its symbolic significance as a fusion of East vs. West, Tradition vs. Modernism, Spirituality vs. Materialist Reality, Religious Solemnity vs. Tourist festivity.
The tourist-known “Sinulog” festival of Cebu in the central Philippines took a significant symbolic  turn  when  it  was celebrated  in Berlin, Germany, where  East  meets  West  once again in  modern times.

12 January 2012, Berlin – Ambassador Maria Cleofe R. Natividad took the opportunity to personally convey to both Federal President Christian Wulff and Foreign Minister Dr. Guido Westerwelle the invitation to visit the Philippines during the traditional New Year’s Reception for Ambassadors at the Bellevue Palace on 11 January 2012.
